TISS stir today over cutbacks in scholarship

MUMBAI: Students at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences will boycott classes, field work and submissions on Wednesday in protest against the decision of the institute not to provide scholarships to the economically backward.

The institute cut its financial aid programme and students who depend on the Government of India Post-Matric Scholarshipshave all been asked to pay their tuition.

On May 26, TISS announced it will no longer be able to provide scholarships to SC and ST students. “The ministry of social justice and empowerment, the ministry of tribal affairs, and the state government have not reimbursed the expenses borne by the institute despite repeated requests,” a TISS notice said.
