A State-level team of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) led by its coordinator N Gayathri inspected the schools and interacted with the students especially girls to assess the basic facilities in the schools and whether the students have access to functional toilets, drinking water and other facilities.
The team comprising R. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Project Officer, SSA, and P. R. Baskaran, District Coordinator, SSA, inspected the schools on September 23 and 24 on five domains such as functional toilets for boys and girls, running and drinking water, hand washing, maintenance of toilets and school premises and behavioural changes among students.
Ms. Gayathri interacted with girls whether they were taught about the use of napkins supplied by the government free of cost and dispose them of in an environment friendly manner, sources said. The team would submit its report to the Union Human Resource Development (MHRD) by the end of this month after which a national team from MHRD would visit selected school or schools for the prestigious award.
