The Director General of National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, has said that distance learning programme for primary and secondary school teachers will guarantee quality teaching in Nigeria.
Speaking at the institute’s headquarters in Kaduna, he said that lack of continuous training for primary and secondary school teachers has become a common challenge at the state level, saying no state can afford to release 1,000 teachers for a two year training at a go.
According to him, the only way out of the challenge is to constantly retrain teachers through distance learning, which they can undergo while they continue their work.
Professor Azare further disclosed that his institute will soon begin to award degrees in affiliation with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
