Nagaland Governor P B Acharya on Wednesday called upon educational institutions to emphasise on skill development education and not mere conventional academic education.
Academic knowledge is required but in the present competitive world skill development and education have to go side by side in order to build up proficiency among the younger generation, Acharya said while addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Kohima College Kohima (KCK) here.
KCK was founded by four far sighted individuals Dr Neilhouzhu Kire, Late Dr Satuo Sekhose, Late Vibeilie Solo and Late Vilalhoulie Belho from Kohima Village in 1967. It was taken over by the State Government in February 2006.
KCK is the biggest and foremost institute of higher studies in the state.
Addressing a gathering of alumnus and students, Acharya said educational institutions need to harness on the talents of young boys and girls irrespective of where they are so as to make Nagaland a prosperous and golden State.
He also said that educational institutions should not only be the centre of academic knowledge rather it should be a source of inspiration to the younger generation who are striving for excellence.
The Governor was also of the view that universities and colleges should also be agents to create awareness on the development projects initiated by the government for the welfare of the common people.
